Project Description
In this project, we will evaluate a new technology for generating a synthetic gene. Synthetic genes are the fundamental building blocks of synthetic biology, as they allow engineers to transfer genes from nature to cell factories. Currently, they are obtained by screening a large library of sequence variants (approximately 10*100) using a computer algorithm, and then synthesizing the highest-ranked sequence. This process is straightforward and inexpensive, but there is a high error rate because the algorithms cannot predict what will work optimally in a cell. In this project, the applicant will evaluate a new technology for screening large libraries of sequence variants in a cell and identify those that express at high levels and code for proteins that fold efficiently.
Responsibilities
The researcher will design, plan, and conduct experiments to evaluate a new technology for generating a synthetic gene. Some travel may be required.
Eligibility Requirements
A researcher is primarily employed for research and must have obtained a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree.
Assessment Criteria
In the appointment process, special emphasis will be placed on scientific competence. Experience with protein production in E. coli and/or the use of biosensors is a requirement.
About the Position
The position is full-time and is limited to a maximum of 4 months. Start date by agreement.
